Student Placements

OPAL has a history of managing successful student placements with student social workers gaining invaluable first-hand experience in supporting people with learning disabilities.

We have found that student social workers have a lot to offer our team, bringing a fresh perspective and strong commitment to provide one-to-one support to people with learning disabilities.

What OPAL offers students:

  • Suitable learning opportunities for those qualifying as social workers to demonstrate the National Occupational Standards for Social Work HCPC professional capabilities framework.
  • Opportunity to develop communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Participation in workforce development courses.
  • Develop professional working relationships through 1:1 and group work.
  • Assist with providing information to people in a format they can understand which helps them make informed choices.
  • Opportunity to work with multi agency teams.
  • Opportunity to plan, manage and assess the risk in all situations that may arise with the team.

In addition all student placements will receive guidance, support and supervision from a practice educator.
